The Breastfeeding Support Group will meet the first Thursday of each month at 11 a.m. in the Family Lounge on the third floor at Grace Hospital. The group is for current or soon-to-be breastfeeding mothers. Participants can share tips, get information from our certified lactation consultants and get a free weight check for your baby. This free drop-in seminar is about creating a “Living Will” and “Health Care Power of Attorney.” An advance directive explains your wishes concerning life-sustaining treatment or it names a person to decide for you in the event you are unable to make health care decisions. Lymphedema Prevention

Learn about lymphedema prevention and treatment in this class. Anyone who has lymph vessels that have been damaged or removed from surgery, radiation, infection or trauma is at risk for developing lymphedema. Lymphedema can occur anytime from postoperatively to a couple of years or even 20 years after cancer therapy. With proper education and care, lymphedema can be avoided, or if it develops, kept well under control. For more information, call 580-7954.

This free program, offered by the American Cancer Society and Blue Ridge HealthCare, teaches beauty techniques to patients in active treatment for cancer to help reduce the appearance-related side effects. Volunteer cosmetologists lead the program that includes a 12-step skin care and makeup program designed to teach women how to cope with skin changes using products donated by the cosmetic industry. Women also learn about hair loss, wigs, scarves and other accessories. This group meets the third Monday of each month at the Valdese Cancer Center. To register for a session, call at 438-4643.
