Our Customers / Patients - Medical Oncology treats adult patients, 18 years or older, with any diagnosis of cancer/blood dyscrasias as well as ambulatory infusions for non-chemotherapy patients. Radiation Oncology treats patients with any benign or malignant tumors.

Important Facts - Medical oncology services are offered at Grace and Valdese campuses. Radiation Therapy is offered at Valdese Hospital.

Medical Oncology - Medical Oncology treats patients with chemotherapy for the following cancer diagnoses including, but not limited to: bladder, breast, lymphoma, lung, prostate, renal cell, colon, rectal, ovarian, cervical, uterine, laryngeal, testicular, melanoma, gastric and Kaposi Sarcoma. Also treated are blood dyscrasias such as Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL), Autoimmune Thrombocytopenia Purpura (ITP), Polycythemia, Pancytopenia and Waldenstrom's Macroglobulinemia. Medical Oncology also administers monoclonal antibody.

Ambulatory Infusion – Medical Oncology at Valdese also performs infusion therapy such as antibiotic infusionCancer Care Image 2s, blood transfusions, iron transfusions, and more.

Radiation Oncology treats patients with radiation teletherapy through the use of 6MV and 18MV photon energies and electron energies of 6,9,12,16 and 20 MeV. Radiation Oncology is licensed for the use of radioactive isotopes for the purposes of brachytherapy. Tumors treated in the following anatomical areas include but not limited to brain, throat, oral, lung, breast, esophagus, colon, stomach, kidney, rectum, bladder, prostate, any bony area including arms, legs, spine, skin lesions, as well as Hodgkin's Lymphoma. The Valdese facility is equipped to perform prostate seed implants.

Specialized Technology Used - Radiation Oncology has recently implemented new equipment to provide radiation therapy. A Varian 21EX Platinum Plus Linear Accelerator was recently installed with the capability of performing Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), and features portal vision and respiratory gating. Also recently installed was a new CT Simulator equipped to perform 3-D simulation reconstruction and virtual beam portal setup.

Accreditations - Both the Valdese and Grace Hospital oncology programs are accreditated with commendation by the American College of Surgeons.
