Blue Ridge HealthCare - Community Outreach
Blue Ridge HealthCare is continually reaching out to our community, offering free health screenings, seminars, public education programs and other events. If you'd like to sponsor or schedule a health screening or event, contact our Community Outreach Coordinator. You may also want to check out the outreach events and happenings on our calendar of events.
The goal of Community Outreach is to heighten awareness and educate our residents about their health, and hopefully, catch a potential problem before it becomes a major health issue. Our services and screenings are generally done at community "hubs," such as churches, volunteer fire departments, schools and community centers. We have partnered with some businesses and industries to provide on-site screenings as well.
We particularly try to help identify people living and working within Blue Ridge HealthCare's service area who have an increased risk for cardiovascular disease. At the screenings, we require that you complete a cardiovascular risk assessment tool (survey) and have your blood pressure taken. If you have fasted, you have the choice of having your lipids and blood sugar checked. Certified lab personnel will draw your blood. All participants will receive results of their screening by mail. At some outreach events, we also offer screenings for peripheral artery disease, osteoporosis and lung health.
Blue Ridge HealthCare is proud to offer this service. More than 13,000 participants were screened over a two-year period in 2007 and 2008.
