Blue Ridge HealthCare offers financial assistance to low income and medically indigent patients who have a balance due for services provided by our hospitals. All applicants for financial assistance will be treated fairly, respectfully and confidentially. Blue Ridge HealthCare provides an automatic discount to all uninsured patients, regardless of their ability to pay.
Blue Ridge HealthCare has a policy of providing Charity Care adjustments to patients who qualify, subject to the following considerations:
- Patient balances cannot be considered for Charity Care adjustment for elective or cosmetic procedures.
- Patients with incomes up to 120% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines are eligible for a Charity Care adjustment equal to 100% of their account balance.
- Patients with incomes between 120% and 250% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines are eligible for a Charity Care discount on their balance.
- Blue Ridge HealthCare may request documentation to verify patient income and asset information.
- Patients who have net assets with a value exceeding $75,000.00 will not be considered for Charity Care adjustment.
- Upon approval for Financial Assistance, all accounts with the hospital within the prior three months may be included in the charity care determination as well as future accounts with dates of service up to 90 days from the application receipt date.
To Be Considered For Financial Assistance
Blue Ridge HealthCare prefers to conduct financial reviews at the time services are rendered for outpatients or during the time of hospitalization for inpatients. If circumstances prevent that, then patients wishing to be considered for Charity Care assistance should call our Financial Counselors at (828)-580-5090 or (828)-580-7576. A member of the Blue Ridge HealthCare financial counseling staff will ask you for the required information and documentation. At this time all other coverage options, such as Medicaid or liability insurance, will be explored before any charity care adjustments are authorized.
Patients are expected to cooperate fully in the review process by:
- Conducting any necessary follow-up work to secure third party reimbursements recommended by Blue Ridge HealthCare.
- Accurately and honestly completing all necessary financial disclosure forms.
- Providing additional documentation as requested, such as pay stubs, bank statements, tax returns, property assessments, etc.
- Paying remaining balances for all accounts that are not eligible for Charity Care adjustments.
Blue Ridge HealthCare provides a variety of payment options, including long-term payment plans.
