AMY EVANS, FNP-CNM

Amy Hemstreet Evans has been with Blue Ridge Health Care for nine years. She was born in Morganton, NC, and attended The University of the South in Sewanee, TN, where she received a B.A. in Anthropology. She was a member of the Order of the Gownsmen, Sewanee’s honor society. She then traveled extensively in Central and South America. In 1999 she attended Vanderbilt University School of Nursing where she received her BSN and Master’s in Nursing. She is both a Certified Nurse Midwife, accredited by the American College of Nurse Midwives and a Family Nurse Practitioner, accredited by the ANCC. Mrs. Evans is a member of Sigma Theta Tau, nursing’s honor society. While at Vanderbilt University she met her husband, SR Evans III, who was a medical student. She then completed a Migrant Health Fellowship in rural Colorado. Mrs. Evans is fluent in medical Spanish and enjoys working with diverse patient populations. She has an interest in public health, adolescent health, and overall women’s wellness across the lifespan. Mrs. Evans is married to SR Evans III, MD, and they have three active, wonderful children. They enjoy spending time outdoors in beautiful North Carolina, fly- fishing, gardening, working out and eating well! Mrs. Evans’ free time is largely spent in activities with her children including coaching various sports and volunteering in the public schools. She also enjoys music, travel, boating and is an active member of Grace Episcopal Church.


RHONDA A. MCNEELY, CNM

Rhonda McNeely has been with Blue Ridge Healthcare for 9 yrs. She was born and raised in Morganton, NC and attended the University of NC at Charlotte, where she received a BS in nursing. After becoming a nurse, she worked in a private physician's office as well as in labor and delivery. While there, she realized that she wanted to pursue another dream, and that was to become a midwife. She attended the State University of New York at Stony Brook, and received her MS in Midwifery in 2000. She is a Certified Nurse Midwife, and is accredited by the American College of Nurse Midwives. She considers it a privilege to work with women of all ages. She feels blessed to be able to do the job that she has always dreamed of. She is married to Ambrose McNeely, and has two daughters, Sarah and Harlee, and two step children, Brigham and Blythe. Her greatest love in life is being a mother. She enjoys the outdoors, caring for her animals, gardening, and staying physically fit. She has a deep rooted love for animals and has been known to take in many strays and nurse them back to health. She hopes to one day open a refuge for animals in need.


KATHERINE SHEA, PA-C, RDMS

Kate Shea, PA-C, joined Women’s Health Group in 2000 and enjoys providing individualized, confidential, and comfortable gynecological and prenatal care in both the Marion and Morganton locations. She spent part of her childhood living in Pakistan where her parents served as missionaries and has been afforded the opportunity to travel to many countries. After returning from overseas, she grew up near Charleston, SC. She graduated Cum Laude from Presbyterian College (Clinton, SC) with a BS degree in Biology. She subsequently attended the Medical University of South Carolina (Charleston, SC) and earned her Physician Assistant degree. Prior to moving to Marion, NC, she practiced OB/GYN in rural eastern NC. During this time she was also credentialed as a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS). She has a special interest in preventative health care, contraceptive counseling and management, first gynecological exam, adolescent gynecologic care, management of perimenopause and menopause, hormone therapy, vaginitis and urinary problems, weight management, and anxiety and depression. She believes menarche, pregnancy, birth and menopause are normal, healthy passages in a woman’s life, and that every woman deserves to be empowered and guided through these passages with cutting edge clinical recommendations and respect for individual choices. She is listed in the GLMA Directory and provides welcoming, confidential, non-judgmental healthcare services for every patient. She is the proud mother of two grown daughters and is happily married.
