S.R. EVANS, III, MD, FACOG
S. R. Evans III, MD, is a native of Greenwood, MS. While in high school Dr. Evans was an Eagle Scout and a National Merit Finalist. He received his undergraduate degree from Washington and Lee University in 1996 where he graduated Summa Cum Laude with a B.A. in History and a B.S. in Natural Sciences and Mathematics. His honors from Washington and Lee University include the Mapleson Award given to the B.A. student with the highest academic record and the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Medallion for service as an undergraduate. While at W&L Dr. Evans was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Omicron Delta Kappa. In 1999 he attended Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville, TN. He was a member of the prestigious Microbes and Defense Honor Society while at Vanderbilt. He completed his residency training in Ob/Gyn at the University of Virginia in 2005. As a Chief Resident at UVA, he received the award for Special Excellence in Endoscopic Procedures by the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists. Dr. Evans joined Blue Ridge Health Care in 2005. Dr. Evans is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and a member of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. Dr. Evans enjoys all aspects of Ob/Gyn and has a special interest in advanced laparoscopic surgery including total laparoscopic hysterectomy. He is also an expert in advanced office procedures including Novasure endometrial ablation and the Essure sterilization procedure. Dr. Evans is married to Amy Evans, a Morganton native. Together with their three children they enjoy spending time outdoors. He also spends time coaching various sports for his children. Dr. Evans is an avid woodsman. He and his wife like fly-fishing and traveling together. Dr. Evans is a leader within Blue Ridge Medical Group and works diligently for a strong medical system serving our community.
PHILENE MICHELLE KROGEL, DO, FACOOG
Dr. Philene Krogel joined Women’s Health Group in the summer of 2012. She was raised in Florida and then relocated to Tennessee where she received her B.S. in Biology. She then completed medical school in Erie, Pennsylvania at the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Krogel accomplished her residency training in OB/GYN in Farmington Hills, Michigan where she was recognized as chief resident. Dr. Krogel is Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology. She is a member of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, The American Osteopathic Association, and the North Carolina OB/GYN Society. She worked for 2 years as an attending OB/GYN physician in Michigan prior to moving to North Carolina. Dr. Krogel has always taken an active role in teaching, and was recognized as an Adjunct Clinical Professor with Michigan State University and now with Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine. She enjoys all aspects of OB/GYN, but has a special interest in minimally invasive surgery. She is married to Nathaniel Krogel, who actively works as a Gastroenterologist. They have three active boys: Noah, Ben and Hudson. She enjoys spending time with her family, water sports, hiking and running.
RICHARD L. SALSMAN, MD, FACOG
Dr. Salsman was born in Texas and grew up in San Antonio. He did his undergraduate work at the University of Texas San Antonio, and completed medical school at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio 1987, receiving his M.D. degree. He completed his internship and residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Parkland Memorial Hospital, University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, Dallas Texas in 1991. He began practice in Marion, North Carolina July 1991. Over the next few years the Marion and Morganton offices worked closely together and Women's Health Group, PA was born in the late 1990s providing excellent care for patients residing in McDowell and Burke County. Dr. Salsman firmly believes that each patient is an individual deserving dignity and respect, and takes pride in individualizing his care to meet the specific needs of each patient. He has a special interest and minimally invasive surgery, and offers NovaSure endometrial ablation and Essure permanent sterilization as an in office procedure. He is married and has 3 children. In his spare time he enjoys spending time with his family and travelling.
